You have a point there, Varina.  Hey, one artist who has come to mind since
I brought up the subject of an "American Oils" is Lou Reed.  Lou's music is
political, passionate, angry in a constructive way, and has a spiritual
component , particularly in the regard of the search for meaning in
life...his album "Magic and Loss" is a deeply questing masterpiece.
